Fulton Construction was founded by the late Joe Fulton. Shortly after earning his Architectural Engineering degree at the University of Texas, Joe began his work as a commercial builder. In 1958, he relocated to Corpus Christi to continue his career in construction and begin his longtime commitment to the betterment of our community.
Jim Barnette came to Corpus Christi in 1961 after completing his Civil Engineering degree at the University of Mississippi. After working as a professional engineer for many years, Jim founded Coastcon Corporation in 1976 in order to pursue commercial construction projects in the area.
Joe and Jim were competitors for many years but shared a similar mindset and work ethic. In 1982, they decided to combine forces and established the Fulton-Coastcon Joint Venture. This dual effort made it possible for them to focus on larger projects in the area while staying true to their local roots. Both Joe and Jim believed keeping business local was key to supporting community growth. The Fulton-Coastcon business plan emphasized the recruitment of local personnel and use of local subcontractors in order to ensure each project optimized investment into the local economy.
